Armação de Pêra now a thriving holiday resort, is situated about 8km west of Albufeira.

Armação de Pêra was for centuries a place where the fisherman from the nearby town of Pêra would maintain their fishing boats. Local sardines and tuna were landed here, salted and sold throughout the south of Portugal.
Fortifications were built in the 17th century to protect the settlement from raids by pirates. Part of these fortifications still stand today overlooking the sea. Inside is a chaple dedicated to Santo Antonio.
The main beach is still know today as Praia dos Pescadores, or fishermans beach. Fishing boats can still be see landing their catch on the beach, as well as taking tourists on sightseeing trips to the local caves. |

The area of Armação de Pêra offers a great deal of bars, restaurants. In the summer, for 3 to 4 months, there is a great influx of holiday visitors, but for the rest of the year this location is quiet, peaceful and beautiful. By the beaches to the east-side of Armação de Pêra we find various restaurants which are well know for their fresh fish dishes.
